Ingredients

12 Sweet Hawaiian rolls

6 large eggs

1 cup whole milk

1/2 cup heavy cream

1/2 cup granulated sugar

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon nutmeg

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/2 cup crushed pineapple (drained)

1/2 cup shredded coconut (optional)

Powdered sugar (for dusting)

Maple syrup (for serving)

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9x13 inch baking dish with butter or non-stick spray.

Slice the Sweet Hawaiian rolls in half horizontally and place the bottom halves in the prepared baking dish.

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, whole milk, heavy cream, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt until well combined.

Pour half of the egg mixture evenly over the sliced rolls in the baking dish. Scatter the crushed pineapple and shredded coconut over the rolls.

Place the top halves of the rolls back on, and then pour the remaining egg mixture over the tops, ensuring all pieces are soaked. You can gently press down on the rolls to make sure they absorb the mixture.

Cover the baking dish with foil and let it sit in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes or overnight for best results.

Bake the French toast bake, covered with foil, for 25 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and slightly crispy.

Once done, remove from the oven and allow it to cool for a few minutes. Dust with powdered sugar before serving.

Serve warm with maple syrup drizzled on top, and enjoy the sweet and tropical flavors!
