Ingredients

For the Dough:

4 cups all-purpose flour

1 packet (2 ¼ tsp) active dry yeast

1/2 cup whole milk, warmed

1/2 cup granulated sugar

1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted

2 large eggs

1 tsp salt

1/2 tsp ground cinnamon

For the Apple Filling:

2 medium-sized apples, peeled, cored, and diced (Honeycrisp or Granny Smith work well)

1/2 cup brown sugar, packed

1 tsp ground cinnamon

1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened

1/2 cup chopped walnuts or pecans (optional)

For the Cream Cheese Frosting:

8 oz cream cheese, softened

1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened

2 cups powdered sugar

1 tsp vanilla extract

2-3 tbsp milk (adjust for consistency)

Instructions

Prepare the Dough: In a small bowl, mix the warm milk with the yeast and 1 tsp of sugar. Allow it to sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.

Mix Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, remaining sugar, salt, and cinnamon. Add the melted butter, eggs, and the yeast mixture. Mix until a dough starts to form.

Knead the Dough: Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place it in a lightly greased bowl, cover with a clean cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.

Prepare the Filling: While the dough is rising, mix together the diced apples, brown sugar, cinnamon, and softened butter in a bowl. Add chopped nuts if using.

Roll Out the Dough: Once the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it out into a large rectangle, about 16x24 inches. Spread the apple filling evenly across the surface.

Form the Rolls: Starting from one edge, tightly roll the dough into a log. Pinch the seam to seal. Using a sharp knife or dental floss, slice the roll into 12 equal pieces. Place the rolls in a greased baking dish, cover, and let rise for an additional 30 minutes.

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

Bake the Rolls: Bake the rolls for 25-30 minutes, or until golden brown. Remove from the oven and let cool for 10 minutes.

Prepare the Frosting: In a mixing bowl, beat together the cream cheese and butter until smooth. Gradually add the powdered sugar and vanilla, mixing until combined. Add milk a tablespoon at a time until the desired consistency is reached.

Frost and Serve: Spread the cream cheese frosting over the warm rolls. Serve immediately and enjoy!
