Ingredients

4 cups all-purpose flour

1 ½ teaspoons sea salt

1 teaspoon sugar

1 packet (2 ¼ teaspoons) active dry yeast

1 ½ cups warm water (about 110°F or 43°C)

2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil

Cornmeal (for dusting)

Instructions

Activate the Yeast: In a small bowl, mix the warm water and sugar. Sprinkle yeast on top and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it's frothy.

Combine Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together the flour and sea salt until well combined.

Mix Dough: Create a well in the center of the flour mixture, pour in the activated yeast mixture and olive oil. Stir with a wooden spoon until the dough starts to come together.

Knead the Dough: Transfer the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until the dough is smooth and elastic. Add a little extra flour if it’s too sticky.

First Rise: Shape the dough into a ball and place it in a greased bowl, turning it to coat with oil. Cover with a damp cloth or plastic wrap and let it rise in a warm place for 1-2 hours, or until it doubles in size.

Punch Down: Once the dough has risen, punch it down to release the air. Divide it into two equal portions for large pizzas or leave it whole for a thicker crust.

Second Rise: Shape each portion into a ball and place them on a floured surface. Cover again and let them rise for about 30 minutes more.

Preheat and Prepare: Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C) with a pizza stone or an upside-down baking sheet inside to heat.

Shape the Dough: Take one dough ball and stretch it gently on a floured surface, forming your desired pizza shape. Avoid using a rolling pin to retain air bubbles for a better crust.

Add Toppings: Transfer the shaped dough to a pizza peel or another floured surface. Top with your favorite sauce, cheese, and toppings.

Bake: Carefully slide the pizza onto the preheated stone or baking sheet. Bake for 12-15 minutes until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbly.

Cool and Serve: Remove the pizza from the oven and let it cool for a minute. Slice and serve hot!
